There is a lot about Xelloss that is not quite understood by many of his fans. For the most part, Xelloss' fans remain too obsessed with how cute he is (or any other similar thought) to understand that he is a being of evil. Mazoku are pure evil and because Xelloss is a mazoku, he too is pure evil. I fully understand this fact but I still adore Xelloss' mischievous personality. I think the fact that he is so evil is what makes him such an interesting character.

Below, in a Q&A format, are a list of frequent misconceptions regarding Xelloss. Even if you think you know it all, please read through it anyways. You may learn something new. For those of you who doubt this information, I present you with links to Slayers Universe and QP's Slayers Page, two sites that are excellent resources. The owners of both sites have access (and can fully understand) to Japanese material, so if you doubt me, at least do not doubt them. With that in mind, here are the questions.

1. What is Xelloss' last name?

Xelloss does not have a last name. Most people are led to believe that his last name is Metallium, but Metallium is the second part of Zelas Metallium's name. While Zelas did create Xelloss, it does not mean that Metallium is Xelloss' last name. Mazoku don't appear to even have last names. The only name given to the Trickster Priest is Xelloss and the name Xelloss Metallium is just a name that fans have given him.

2. Why does Xelloss always run away from fights?

Contrary to what some people may believe, Xelloss is not a coward. Mazoku are beings that have no fear; this is why many mazoku we meet throughout the series are very confident in their abilities. We have never met an un-confident mazoku. If a mazoku were to fear something, they would be doubting their capabilities, creating self-doubt. Self-doubt is a human trait and it would ultimately hurt or kill a mazoku.

Mazoku feed off of negative emotions such as anger and fear; two emotions that humans display in battle. Xelloss feeds on these emotions and it would not make sense for him to simply run away when a good opportunity to get a snack has arised.

The fact that Xelloss mysteriously dissappears cannot be denied. His reasons for doing so usually varry. In some instances, he has been ordered not to get involved. There is also the possbility that Xelloss vanishes because he knows he would not have a good chance of winning (like his fight with Gaav). However, this is very debatable since mazoku aren't supposed to have any self-doubt.

3. Who is the best partner for Xelloss?

There is a lot of controversy over who Xelloss should be paired up with. The best answer to this question, however, is that Xelloss should be paired up with no one. In the series, Xelloss is not paired up with anyone at all and any couplings are made up by fans. I personally find it rediculous to pair Xelloss up with anyone because he is a mazoku. Mazoku thrive on negative emotions and cannot love (not 'they don't know how' or won't). However, thinking up couples involving Xelloss can be amusing and I have nothing against tasteful couple shrines. Here's some clarifications in any case:

Lina Inverse: Xelloss has kissed Lina twice, but this does not mean he has a crush on her. Xelloss enjoys fooling around with people (hence the name the Trickster Priest) and the most logical answer as to why Xelloss kissed Lina was either to mess around with her mind or to avoid answering a question. The reason Xelloss follows Lina around is because he was ordered to, and later joins the group in Slayers TRY because they share the same objective. Likewise, Lina does not love Xelloss; she tollerates him only because she sees him as an asset.

Amelia Wil Tesla Saillune: Amelia, plain and simple, would never love a being who is evil natured. Amelia believes the world should be filled with love and justice while Xelloss is a being who thrives off of negative emotions. Opposites do attract, but the force between opposite poles weakens when the distance between them becomes greater. In other words, Xelloss and Amelia are on completely different ends of the stick.

Martina Zoana Mel Navratilova: Xelloss did not mind Martina following him around but that does not mean that he loved her. This relationship would never work out because of Martina and her general dislike of mazoku. Aside from that, Martina is currently married to Zangulus.

Sylphiel Nels Lada: This is the exact same as the Xelloss/Amelia situation. Sylphiel has a large infatuation with Gourry in any case.

Filia Ul Copt: See next question.

4. Are Filia and Xelloss in love with each other?

The Xelloss x Filia relationship is the most popular pairing with Xelloss. While it's possible that the two can have some sort of interest between each other, it's doubtful that they would ever enter a relationship with each other. This is evident because of their strong dislike for each other.

In the episode where the characters were paired off with each other, Filia and Xelloss were paired together. Some people believe that this is evidence that the two are meant for each other, but I feel the need to point out that Jiras claimed that the pairs were made up to be the worst matches. This means that this is poor evidence to support this relationship.

During most of Slayers TRY, Xelloss and Filia were fighting. Not once would they pair up with each other except in the end; even then was Filia very reluctant to combine her powers with Xelloss. Xelloss did save Filia once when she was falling, but he promptly dropped her onto her rear. With Filia's strong hatred towards Xelloss, and Xelloss lacking the ability to love, this relationship just doesn't seem to work out. Putting ryuzoku and mazoku together is like mixing water and oil. 5. Is Xelloss homosexual?

The answer to this question is the same as the answer to the question of who the best partner for Xelloss is. Xelloss cannot love and therefore he does not have a sexual preference. Mazoku don't have any gender; the more powerful mazoku will have the image of a human in order to get closer to humans to make it easier to feed off of negative emotions. The gender of the form they take is simply a choice and can be changed if need be. This is why Xelloss had no problem looking fantastic as a female in episode seventeen of Slayers NEXT. This is not crossdressing; this is changing the gender of his form.

(I'd like to note that this answer is not because I dislike homosexuality; I fully support them and their rights. This answer is composed of actual information regarding mazoku.)

6. What is Xelloss' occupation?

Xelloss is the priest of Greater Beast Zelas Metallium. Zelas has no general as she gave all of her power to Xelloss, giving him the power equivalent to having both a priest and general.

7. Is Xelloss really evil?

Yes, Xelloss is completely evil. We see more of his evil side in Slayers TRY than we do in Slayers NEXT. This is mostly because in Slayers NEXT, we don't know that Xelloss is actually a mazoku until the end of the season. In Slayers TRY, we get to see Xelloss as the mazoku he is. In his battles with Valgarv, we see how ruthless he can be.

It does appear that Xelloss helps Lina out in many situations. However, this is not out of kindness. Xelloss only does things that he is ordered to do. In Slayers NEXT, he was ordered to watch over Lina and make sure she doesn't die before Phibrizo is done with her. Most of the time, Xelloss never helps anyone out; if he gives any advice or news, he often leaves the most important parts out.

An example of this is when Xelloss tells Zelgadiss and Lina about the tennis tournament where the prize was the Claire Bible. However, when the tournament is won, we learn that it wasn't actually the Clair Bible... it was a trophy that had the name Claire Gable on it. Xelloss had pretended to misread it so Zelgadiss would get angry. You must keep in mind that mazoku thrive off of negative emotions, so it may seem that Xelloss is being helpful when in reality he does these things in order to get food to survive.

Some may use the argument that Xelloss helped Lina when she lost her magical powers. He accompanied her on her journey and killed a mazoku assassin. Again, this was not out of kindness. Xelloss had killed the mazoku assassin because he could not let any harm come to Lina since Phibrizo needed her in his plan to destroy the world. Similarly, Xelloss helped Lina kill Seigram, a traitor to Zelas. Xelloss pinned Seigram down while Lina used the Laguna Blade. Some may say that Xelloss wasn't completely evil in doing this, but the only reason he helped her was for a selfish reason. He wanted Seigram killed and so did Lina. Even those who are evil will cooperate with others in order to complete their goals.

8. Was Xelloss ever a human?

There is a rumor among fans that Xelloss was a human at one time. The rumor states that Xelloss used to be a human that roamed the countryside, playing nasty tricks on random people. Zelas found these actions to be amusing and approached Xelloss, turning him into a mazoku, much like the way Gaav turned Valgarv into a mazoku.

This rumor is untrue because we know that Zelas created Xelloss; she is like a biological mother to Xelloss. Mazoku consider humans to be lesser beings. For a powerful mazoku like Zelas, it wouldn't make any sense for her to have a human as her priest. QP uses the example that it would be like a president of a major company making an ant his secretary. Also, if Xelloss was once human, he would only be half mazoku and would have ended up rebelling against Ruby Eye Shabranigdu, much like Gaav did due to the human need to preserve one's life. He would not be as powerful as he is either, if this was the case.

Do you have crack for brains or something? o_O Xelloss' Survival Guide is just a humerous section I put up on this site. It's not real.
